When done professionally, peeling skin refers to the act of removing the top layer of cells from your skin. However, this is also a problem that many of us face during the harsh winter months because of dry skin.
Apart from drinking water, there are a number of home remedies you can follow to treat peeling skin:

Coconut oil: If you do not like ghee, stick to coconut oil. It is a moisturising agent and keeps your skin soft and supple. Massage some coconut oil on your hands every night before going sleeping to prevent your skin from peeling.

Apply cucumber juice: According to Dr Salonee Chawla, a dermatologist, cucumber is a natural astringent, ''It contains a lot of water which helps hydrate your skin,'' she explains. So, Apply cucumber juice on the affected area for ten minutes every day.

Use Sandalwood: ''Peeling skin can also be caused by bacteria present on the skin. Sandalwood has natural anti-microbial properties and can kill the bacteria in the skin, ''says Dr Chawla. Using a sandalwood soap or applying sandalwood paste on your skin will help you get rid of peeling skin.

Petroleum jelly: Petroleum jelly is the safest option. Apply it generously on our hands and toes before going to bed and wear socks and gloves. You can  also replace your moisturiser with the petroleum jelly to keep your skin nourished all through the day.

Apply olive oil: "The fats present in olive oil have a similar composition to the fat cells present in the skin. The vitamin E in it helps the skin fight free radicals which are generally responsible for bad skin, "says Dr Rutuj Shetty, a dermatologist. You can massage your skin with olive oil as include it in your diet.

Rub your skin with lemon: "Lemon is a strong astringent which has the ability to dissolve dead skin," says Dr Chawla.Dilute some lemon juice with water and apply on your skin, particularly on the affected area. You can then scrape off the dead skin gently with a tissue.
